St. Francis Xavier (1506-1552)

Born in a noble family in France, Xavier grew up with the sole ambition of becoming a distinguished scholar of his time. As a student at the university of Paris, he came in contact with St. Igantius of Loyola who challenged this ambitious young man with a question.

“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, if he suffer the loss of his own soul” a question that made Francis abandon his worldly pursuits, for the sake of knowing more about God and His message. He went about preaching the Good News and is counted among the greatest of the missionaries of his time. His feast is celebrated on 3rd of December.
